Youth for Global Responsibility

Young volunteers for Global Development

This is the web platform of the EU-project “Youth for Global Responsibility” which was initiated by the Senate Chancellery Hamburg with local government and NGO partners in Copenhagen, Dar es Salaam, Hamburg, Prague, and Tallinn and ran from January 2011 to December 2012.

The European Year of Volunteering 2011 formed the framework of this project which aimed at initiating exchange of knowledge and best practice in International Youth Voluntary Services (IYVS) among involved stakeholders and organisations such as Youth Voluntary Service Organisations, hosting partners in the Global South, educational institutions, politicians, and young volunteers. This joint project has therefore been organised as a network for tool-sharing, capacity-building and lobbying.

By presenting surveys from different European and Southern perspectives, various reports and results of international meetings on all core issues concerning IYVS, this website seeks to provide comprehensive information and to initiate controversial debates about tasks and aims of such services, the benefit for Southern hosting partners, and the role of returned volunteers as disseminators of development issues from different European backgrounds. It will be maintained and updated by all partners after the end of the project.

Take a look at the top menu for information on the project partners, its programme and structure, the aims, the activities that have taken place in the partner countries and the European networking events.

Contribute to change and engage in discussions and exchange!

The project has been evaluated focussing on the target group of young returned volunteers. The Final Evaluation Report can be downloaded here.
